Before sharing this spinach pie , I'd like to tell you how I became involved with CARCaF. I already told you about CARCaF (Argentine Command for the Rescue of Fanatic Carnivores) in this rice burger recipe . I also told you that they work in an organized fashion, usually infiltrating barbecues and meals to identify people who, they say, need their help.
Well, that wasn't my case. CARCaF rang my doorbell one Sunday morning.
– Do you have a moment to talk about meat?
Almost instinctively, I said no and closed the door. Excuse me, I'm having breakfast with my family.
-Well, we'll leave you some information in case you're interested.
And they slipped a brochure under my door. It had photos of lots of happy people in natural settings. The title, in bold:
Could it be that you're eating too much meat?
This information might interest you.
But when you opened it, there were only pictures of happy people and three recipes. One was this spinach tart. Under the title, "Spinach Tart," was the caption: "Do you like cheese? Cheese will help you make a dish with vegetables and without meat very tasty." Years later, as a member of CARCaF, I learned that there were problems with the more radical wing (vegans) for including this recipe in the booklet.
The thing is, the recipe seemed appealing to me, so I made it. The spinach pie came out delicious and we all loved it. The following Sunday, the soldiers (as they're called) of the CARCaF stopped by our house again. Instead of their previous question about whether I had a moment to talk about meat, they said:
– The spinach pie was delicious, wasn’t it?
I never knew how they knew I'd made that recipe. But I opened the door. I'll tell you the rest later. By the way, if you like pies, don't forget to check out this corn pie ; it's delicious and very easy to make.
Now let's get to the recipe...
Ingredients
For 1 median cake
- 1 tied of spinach
- 1/2 onion
- 3 tbsp. milk cream
- 2 tbsp. spreadable cheese (Philadelphia type)
- 1 piece of meltable cheese (I used buttery cheese, it could be mozzarella; 2 tbsp. or so)
- 1 piece of blue cheese (about 1 tbsp)
- 1 pie crust (store-bought or this homemade pie crust or this whole wheat pie crust )
- Salt, pepper and oil
Creamy Spinach Pie Recipe
widely accepted by carnivores
- Wash the spinach and place it in a pot without water, covered, and over low heat (just moist from the water it was washed in). When it has completely softened, remove from the heat. Remove excess water and chop coarsely. If you'd like to learn more about this process, you can watch this video: How to Cook Vegetables .
- Chop the onion and sauté in a little oil. When translucent, add the chopped spinach. Stir and sauté for about 5 minutes.
- Off the heat, add the blue cheese and half of the butter cheese, cut into small pieces, the cream, and the spreadable cheese. Mix everything well.
- Place the pie crust in a pie dish. Pour in the mixture and press down the edges. Arrange the remaining cheese, cut into pieces, on top of the filling.
- Bake your spinach pie in a hot oven for about 15 minutes, until golden brown.
But where do salt and pepper go?
Thanks, Paulina. All your meatless recipes are welcome.
I'm waiting for it to come out of the oven to attack it!!?!
Here we love you
I'm already starting to do it.
Spectacular!!! I added some eggs boiled for 3 minutes, tomato slices, and more cheese on top. Incredible! Paulina, you did it again!!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ??
Hi Paul, I imagine. Today is the first time I'm going to cook with your spinach pie recipe. It looks delicious. Thanks!
I'm not interested in vegan advertising.
A question: Doesn't it have balls to flirt with??? Thanks!
Thank you )Paulina
Hi Paulina, can you add the stems too? Thanks.
Hi Paulina, I'm making the spinach pie today and I'll let you know how it turned out. Thanks. Can I have the corn one?
I added eggs, ham, buttery and sliced cheese, and lots of seasonings. I preheated the oven and put the pie in at 180ºC for 15 minutes, and it turned out spectacular! Just for me!
Hello. Paulina, thank you for all the recipes. You helped me see that cooking isn't that complicated. My daughters and I incorporate many of your recipes. You're our go-to resource.
Hello, Saint Paulina,
what can I serve with this delicious cake? I'm asking you, for a change from the lettuce salad!
Super delicious! We loved it. Everything was just right. Super smooth. Thanks for sharing.
Hi Paulina! Thanks so much for all the recipes. We're super fans of you here, the New Zealand of Argentina :)… Question: How many grams would a bunch of spinach have? Because they don't sell it in bunches here. It's sold in bags or giant bunches, or mostly frozen. Thank you so much for your time!
Thanks, Paulina! You're a genius! I'm very reluctant to cook; I shy away from it, I'm afraid of it, I'm afraid of experimenting. And your recipes inspire me to go beyond the basics, to get simple and express, and to really get my hands dirty in the kitchen. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
Delicious and approved by the little ones in the house. Thanks for the recipe.
