How to cook steamed spinach (without making so much mess!)

How to cook steamed spinach

In this program… Paulina rebels against steaming. We continue with the last video in our vegetable series (I've left the link below to watch the other two). This time, Paulina tells us how to cook spinach using a method similar to steaming, but without all the hassle. I'm sure that if you haven't tried it yet, you'll end up using this method. Enjoy the video!

How to steam spinach?

This method for cooking spinach is quite simple and works for any leafy vegetable: spinach, chard, crickets, whatever you like.

It simply consists of thoroughly washing the leafy vegetable of your choice (spinach in this case) and, without drying or draining it (just shake it a little), placing it in a dry pot, without any liquid other than the liquid the vegetables contain after being washed.

The pot is placed on low heat and covered.

How long should I steam spinach?

The cooking time depends on the vegetable you use. Swiss chard, for example, takes a little longer than spinach. It's generally about 5-7 minutes.

How do I know when my steamed spinach is ready?

It's important to remove them as soon as they "fain." For several reasons: the main one is that they'll retain more nutrients, but also much more color. The color should be a deep, fluorescent green.

What do I do when I steam spinach?

You put your steamed spinach in a colander and crush it firmly, so that it releases the liquid it still contains.

Is this how you steam?

Yes, but no. The correct way to steam is without any water, just with steam. With this method, most vegetables are steamed, with the steam that forms from the water they came in from washing, but in the end, a little water remains, and the vegetables below aren't steamed, they're boiled.

Paulina, why do you use this method to steam your spinach?

Because, with a few exceptions, the spinach is steamed... and because I'm bored to death setting up the steamer and making sure it always has water in it so the pot doesn't get ruined...

Hi Paulina. Can you also boil it with a splash of sunflower oil? Thanks.

The fewer elements used for a given type of cooking, the better, in my opinion. This method is excellent for those who need all kinds of tools to feel like a chef, well... use their plastic, silicone, etc. things and feel like pros. They remind me of those who play on PC, the gaming mouse, the gaming chair, the gaming mouse, and they lose against the ball mouse. Thanks, Paulina. I'll visit your website from time to time.

It's normal for steaming to be a bit of a pain, but that's because you're not using silicone containers! I encourage you to check out these microwaveable cases that steam vegetables and fish perfectly in the microwave or oven. They cook in their own juices, without water or oil (except in some recipes where you can add it if you want).
