Welcome to Paulina Cocina! Today we're going to make a pear and cheesecake. The first in a series of three beautiful cakes I'm calling "unorthodox cakes."
These are cakes that don't have the conventional shape and flavor, but rather look and taste more exotic...
About this pear and provolone tart
First of all, and almost the only thing I want to say, is that this recipe is especially dedicated to all those Raúls who will be served the cake and will say "What do you mean it has cheese with fruit!?"
Yes, Carlos, it has pear and cheese… And it's a great, great combination, which you'll completely miss if you don't abandon those macho tastes you have and try new things, like this one.
It's a cake, really, really easy and really, really delicious. It's the truth, and there's not much more to say. So, I'll leave you with the recipe:
I've left the YouTube video below to better illustrate it. And by the way, if you'd like to subscribe to my wonderful channel, you can do so by clicking here.
Ingredients
for a medium-sized cake
- 1 pear
- 2 slices of Parmesan,
- thyme
- 1 pie crust
Step by step of this pear and cheesecake
If you don't try it, you will never know how delicious it is.
- The first thing we're going to do is grab our pear. We're going to peel it and cut it into medium-sized squares.
- Next, it's the cheese's turn. We'll do the same with our provolone cheese: Cut our provolone cheese into squares as similar as possible to the pear's. If you can't find provolone cheese, you can use one of those provolone cheeses you can get at the supermarket. Try not to use the kind that comes with seasoning.
What comes next is nothing more and nothing less than assembling the cake. Yes, it's that simple:
- We take the dough (if it's store-bought, make sure it's at room temperature so it's easier to handle...). We roll it out on the counter, starting from the edges, to give it a square or rectangular shape.
- In the center, we'll place our chopped pear pieces and then the chopped cheese pieces as well. The idea is to mix them well together.
- On top, we'll sprinkle a generous amount of thyme. This is important because in this easy recipe with so few ingredients, thyme adds an essential touch.
- Now comes the craft part: we're going to grab a blunt knife and cut strips from the excess dough, on the sides (the longest sides of the rectangle) of the center where we placed our filling (you can see it better in the video above).
- From the center to the edge of the dough. Then, we'll take one of those strips and bring them to the center and place them on top of our filling. Place them one on top of the other, interspersed, forming a braid, like the ones you make in your hair.
- Next, we'll fold the excess dough from the tips until our pie is well sealed at the tips. If you like, you can brush it with egg to make it shiny when it comes out of the oven.
- As it is, we place our handmade cake in the oven at 180°C until it turns golden. All that's left to do is take it out and enjoy it.
Hi, can it be frozen? Thanks.
