Hello everyone! Welcome to Paulina Cocina . Today we're bringing you a new addition that's become popular in Mexico, and we want to share it with you to see what you think. It's a drink that's popping up everywhere. They call it Azulitos , and it's served in a frosted glass, a goblet, with umbrellas, or fruit.
So the question that arises is: do the famous Blueys have anything to do with The Smurfs? Is the color a tribute to that cartoon, or is it called that because the color blue reminds us of them? We started investigating, and it seems it's a bit of this and a bit of that.
It turns out there are tons of recipes out there. One even involves mixing an energy drink with vodka, but we didn't think it was the best idea to mix taurine and alcohol.

Getting to know the blue ones
The famous “ Bluey ” is an iconic drink that has gained popularity thanks to its association with the beloved Smurf characters, but it has also acquired a special place in popular culture in general.
How was the recipe for blue ones born?
Although the exact recipe may vary, azulitos are characterized by their distinctive blue color and refreshing, pleasant flavor.
Although there is no officially recognized recipe, common ingredients used to prepare this drink include food coloring, lemon-lime soda , and, in some cases, fruit ingredients to enhance both the color and flavor.
The name Azulito evokes the image of the Smurfs, the tiny blue beings who live in a hidden village in the forest.
- These characters , created by Belgian illustrator Peyo in the 1950s, have become a cultural phenomenon that transcends generations.
The drink takes its name from these iconic beings, and its vibrant blue color seeks to capture the essence and charm of the Smurfs.
However, it's important to note that the drink itself is not directly related to the fictional characters in terms of story or franchise.
What do the little blue ones, also known as Smurfs, wear?
To prepare the recipe for blueberries , the main ingredients are usually lemon-lime soda and food coloring, which creates the characteristic blue hue. The amount and type of coloring can vary depending on personal preferences and the desired result.
Additionally, some fans may add fruit juices such as blueberries or blackberries to enhance both the flavor and color, although this may depend on the specific recipe or version used.
In some variations of Azulitos , vodka is added to give the drink an alcoholic touch. The addition of vodka can not only provide a smooth flavor, but can also complement the citrus and fruit flavors present in the drink, just as it can in other vodka-based drinks .
However, it is important to remember that alcohol consumption must be responsible and appropriate to the consumer's preferences and restrictions.
Alcohol-free blue ones
Since this drink, called Azulitos or Smurfs, is very striking due to its color and because it has sugar frosting and gummies on top, it can be ideal for children.
But it may also happen that on some outings you have to be the designated driver or you simply don't want to drink alcohol , and that's where this recipe comes in handy.
The recipe for alcohol-free blueberries is very simple: In a glass, mix lemon juice, blueberry syrup, and lemon-lime soda . Serve with ice and in a glass rimmed with chamoy and chili powder.
The little blue one made with blue curacao
Azulitos are alcoholic drinks that have a blue color due to an added ingredient, such as blue curaçao liqueur . This liqueur is a type of orange liqueur primarily used to give cocktails a blue hue.
Some blue drinks that use this ingredient are the Blue Hawaiian , the Blue Bayou , the Blue Margarita, and the Hitter Bitter. These drinks typically have a tropical, refreshing flavor and are served in glasses or cups garnished with fruit or sugar.
