Halloween, Day of the Dead, or a spooky party: here are some easy ideas to make your drink just right.
1. Spooky Apples: Your sangria can take on the flavor of apples. And while you're at it, we can make some cute faces to match the occasion. Just remove the core and carve the faces. It's important to soak the apples in lemon juice for a few minutes (or rub them well with a lemon) to prevent them from turning brown. You can also stick a few cloves into the apple; this will add flavor to your sangria.
2. Brain in a glass: It's well known that Baileys doesn't mix well with other drinks. It also produces the "brainy" effect in the glass. Combined with something red like grenadine, voila! We have a delicious mess. Here are some recipes for shots with brains:
Brain (1): apple liqueur, currant, and Baileys.
Brain (2): Baileys and a splash of mangaroca.
Brain: Baileys and grenadine.
Northern Brain: peach liqueur, vodka, and Baileys.
3. Test-tube shots: Any red shot, put in a test tube, will give the impression of blood. Here are more ideas for shots with a red color:
African: hazelnut liqueur, grenadine, and mint.
Aspirator: grenadine, mangaroca, and tequila.
Dulcinea: Liqueur 43, grenadine, and kiwi.
Espinete : whiskey, vanilla, and grenadine.
4. The old dry ice trick: it never gets old. Despite the years, I still find it fun. If you're in Argentina, ask your ice cream maker for some. If not, you can see how to make it at home in this YouTube video , using the ingredients.
5. Ice Hand!: I love this idea, and it's so easy. We simply make an ice hand with a latex glove and place it in the sangria or punch. Brilliant.
6. Bloody glasses: It's very simple to decorate the glasses as if they were dripping with blood. Just buy a red syrup (strawberry, raspberry, or whatever, even chocolate would be great), the kind you put on ice cream; you can find it at the supermarket. Pour the syrup onto a shallow plate and rest the rim of the glass on it, just like when decorating with sugar. Soak it in the syrup and immediately turn it upside down so it drips.
7. Ice cubes with eyes: also very easy and eye-catching. They're made with a peeled radish (make sure the size fits in the ice bucket), hollowed out, and with an olive inside. Pieces of skin are left on the radish; when in contact with water, this discolors and acts as blood. They'd look great in a martini.
