about this chocolate mug cake
I already told you in the video that I'm a bit skeptical about mug cakes, but hey, I also tell you that in the end, you end up growing fond of them, especially because they're the only recipe that allows you to satisfy a craving for cake in a very short time... and not be left with half a cake to raffle off in the fridge.
Mug cakes have three key advantages: they take just a few minutes to make, they're a small serving, and you don't dirty anything more than a mug. I'll also tell you why I think if you're not going to take advantage of these advantages (if you're going to spend time preparing ingredients like grated carrots, or if you're going to dirty more utensils), it's always better to make a cake.
I could tell you thousands of things and little secrets for successfully making a mug cake recipe. There are so many, so many that I decided to write this post in which I explain both my mug cake philosophy and the dos and don'ts of mug cakes. Check it out, it will be helpful: Mug Cakes: This Is What NOT to Do if You Want Them Perfect.
I leave you then, with this chocolate mug cake recipe, ideal to accompany a mate on a winter afternoon.
Ingredients
for 1 chocolate mug cake
- 4 level tbsp self-rising flour (can also be plain flour + 1/2 tsp baking powder)
- 4 level tbsp. sugar
- 2 tbsp. cocoa powder (good, bitter... and if you don't have any, the other kind...)
- 2 tbsp. milk
- 2 tbsp. neutral oil (corn or sunflower)
- 1 egg
- Impalpable sugar to decorate
Chocolate mug cake recipe
simpler, impossible
- Mix all the dry ingredients directly in the bowl with a fork: flour, cocoa, and sugar. Mix well.
- Add the egg and beat well, scraping the edges to ensure no flour sticks. Beat until smooth.
- Add the liquids: milk and oil. Mix well. The chocolate mug cake mix shouldn't be too runny, as it could leak, dirty your microwave, and end up crying in the bakery. If necessary, add a little more flour.
- Microwave: Place on the edge of the turntable (if there is one), not in the center. As I explain in the video, each microwave is unique, so you'll have to experiment with yours. It wouldn't hurt to get used to the fact that this first chocolate mug cake is going to be ugly... although edible. My times are: 2 minutes at full power and 1.5 minutes at medium power. Start by experimenting with 1.5 minutes at full power and then experiment.
- Remove and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Eat warm, which is when the pastry is at its best. And with a dollop of ice cream... Long live the chocolate mug cake!
My microwave is broken. I'm going to try making it in the pan and see how it turns out.
It's still cooking... it's becoming like an omelet.
I put dulce de leche on top and it was really delicious. I recommend it!
It turned out spectacular! At 1'30", it was fluffy and moist. Thanks, Paulina, you genius!
I was afraid because I've tried other mug cakes and they turn out awful, but this one turned out amazing. Thanks so much for the recipe.
Excellent recipe, very simple, very quick, with ingredients you always have at home, and the best part is that it's delicious.
I have a Daewoo microwave, and they turned out perfect in two minutes!
I made it with whole wheat flour, brown sugar, and unsweetened cocoa powder. It was delicious!
In my microwave. 3❤
I tried this recipe yesterday. It's actually very easy and it turned out right the first time. I substituted allulose for the sugar and added a sugar-free semisweet chocolate coin in the center to help it melt. It turned out great.
9/10 ????
It's excellent!!! It has the exact quantities. I added a spoonful of dulce de leche in the center.
I had already tried another recipe and it was a total flop.
It turned out delicious. I made it with sachets of yeast and all-purpose flour.
I also added 6 drops of vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
So delicious!!!
A fluffy and dense cake.
I totally recommend this recipe.
The microwave instructions are the key to success.
I microwaved for 2 minutes on full power and another one halfway through, rotating the mug halfway through each time. Thank you so much for bringing so much sweetness into our lives!
Hello Paulina, great, the recipe, super rich and easy, I just made it, in my microwave it took 3 minutes, ???
Hi Paulina!! Spectacular recipe for these cold days! I didn't add milk because I didn't have any, nor corn oil. I substituted water and olive oil.
I added chocolate chips to the mixture, and once it was hot, a spoonful of blueberry jam. Delicious!
Can I make it in an electric oven and in a cup?
I made it gluten-free: with buckwheat flour, just a little dried yeast, and just a little suitable raising agent. Delicious!!!
Paulina, it came out great, it's delicious.
I'm terrible at cooking and it came out spectacular!! Thank you!!
I just watched Vicky Masuelli's video and made this recipe... I loved it! It's so good!
Thanks, genius! I'm a total mess in the kitchen, but with your recipes, I'm on the mend! It turned out great!
Paulina, I'm happier since I started following you <3
Delicious!!❤
Very good recipe Paulina, I just made it, I substituted the milk for cream because I didn't have any, I added two tablespoons of dulce de leche... it was amazing, thanks
I substituted the self-rising flour with an almond flour that I had, a tablespoon less sugar for preference and the dessert was amazing ??????, delicious, thank you ?.
Hello!! This recipe is very simple and uses very few ingredients.
I made it with my daughter and it's safe to say that all you need is a microwave. I'm very happy with this recipe. Keep it up, Paulina!
It's 5 in the morning... I just made it, delicious... And in minutes...!!! How delicious this time is already!!!! Thanks Paulina.
This is the second time I've made it, and it's delicious! The first time I tried to substitute sugar for liquid sweetener: don't do it! It was bitter. But this time I added sugar. And I allowed myself to add a little cinnamon and a pinch of salt, which I always like to add to cakes. Thanks, Paulina 🙂
We did it and it came out spectacular!!!
It was sooo delicious!! Just like the flan recipe. You have to be careful so it doesn't overflow, and it's okay to open it to take a look every 40 seconds or 1 minute... seriously thinking about buying a microwave for my apartment?? thanks for killing my blues ??
I made it and it was delicious, it's a shame it has a strong smell of boiled egg. Could it be that I put it in the microwave for too long?
Can you use Hileret instead of sugar?
It was delicious! Super easy, delicious, and quick…a life-saving recipe for anxious kids 🙂 Thanks, Paulina!!
I made it, it turned out great and delicious, thanks Paulina, you are the best, keep giving us recipes with few ingredients, simple, quick and delicious!!!!!!!!!!!
