Mexico's and all of our favorites
Okay, wait, we've digressed. Let's get back to the topic of tacos: And yes, how could it not be our favorite when it's the most versatile recipe in the world! Simply put, like fajitas and burritos, tacos are a tortilla with things inside. The difference between these dishes is that the first two use wheat tortillas, while tacos usually use corn tortillas. They're also usually smaller.
In Argentina, we usually use quickie-style dough, it's our variation . Taco dough is made with wheat flour, and if you check out the recipe, you'll also find my secret for when I don't have the time or inclination to make the dough. A secret, huh! So don't spread it around, otherwise everything will go to waste.
Today I'm bringing you taco fillings and a couple of taco sauces you'll love . And if you have any others, let me know, okay?
Let's get started!
Fillings for Mexican tacos
As we all know, Mexican tacos can have different fillings: We can make meat tacos, chicken tacos, vegetarian tacos, whatever! Everything goes well inside a taco. Let's review some of the most traditional taco recipes prepared in Mexico, and why not some innovative alternatives to try at home.
Beef tacos
Ingredients for 10 meat tacos
- 250 grams of meat: it can be eye round, rump, whatever you like best
- 1 median purple onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- 1 fresh chili (optional)
- 1/2 Red pepper or bell
- 1/2 green bell pepper or bell pepper
- Juice of 1 lime or lemon
- 1 medium tomato
- Oregano
- Dry Chile (comfortable)
- Salt and pepper
- Cilantro
- Neutral oil
How to make beef tacos
- Cut the bell peppers and onion into julienne strips, finely chop the garlic and chili, and dice the tomato. Set aside.
- Cut the meat into strips and season it in a bowl with salt and pepper, add half the lemon or lime juice, and let it marinate for about 20 minutes.
If you want, you can do whatever magic you like to flavor the meat at this stage: add mustard, a splash of beer... whatever you like. The idea is for the beef tacos to be really tasty, so anything goes. - In a frying pan, add a splash of oil, the dried chili, and oregano and heat for 2 or 3 minutes. Add the garlic and chili and sauté for a few more minutes.
- Add the meat and sauté. After 5 minutes, halfway through cooking, add the tomato and finish cooking.
- On the other hand, sauté the rest of the vegetables until they are cooked but BE CAREFUL: they must be firm.
- Mix the two preparations and adjust with salt and pepper if necessary. Add the remaining lime or lemon juice and the chopped cilantro.
First filling ready! Let's continue .
Chicken tacos
Ingredients for 10 chicken tacos
- 2 chicken breasts
- 4 garlic cloves
- Juice of 1 lime or lemon
- A little parsley
- 1 green onion
- 1 tbsp cumin
- Dried chili, to taste
- Olive oil
- Salt and pepper
How to make chicken tacos
- Cut the chicken breast into strips and marinate for a while with the lime juice, the finely chopped garlic, the dried chili, and salt and pepper.
- Heat the pan and add a splash of olive oil along with the cumin.
- Add the chicken and brown it. Add the green onion and adjust the flavors. When it's ready, set aside!
If you want to add a dollop of cream cheese, grated cheese, or whatever, it goes great with this chicken taco recipe.
Vegetarian tacos
When it comes to making vegetarian tacos, I don't follow a recipe; I like to sauté whatever vegetables I have at home . Sometimes I add mushrooms, or tofu... anything! Another thing I like to do is sauté the different vegetables separately, so that the tacos aren't all the same and everyone can add whatever they want.
Taco sauces, hey my taco needs salsa ♫
I wouldn't give you a complete taco recipe if I didn't tell you how to make the taco salsas. Well, you already have all the information for guacamole . Now I'll tell you about the two classic Mexican salsas. There are a million more. If you want a salsa post, let me know in the comments, okay?
Let's go with the green sauce and the red sauce.

You always get me out of a tight spot...genius Paulina
I'd like you to tell me one that doesn't have peppers in it since I can't add any at home, thanks.
Thanks for everything
Should I cook the tortilla? Thanks.
Paulina made them spectacular... I was missing the green sauce and I couldn't get the tomatoes, but that didn't matter to us, we licked our toes!! Delicious!
How is the dough made and what ingredients does it contain?
Hi Paulina, the meat tacos are delicious, but with 250 grams of meat, you can't make 10 tacos by any chance. I made 5 with meat and 5 with air. The recipe is still very good. Best regards.
And the taco dough recipe? I'll see if I can find it somewhere else!
They turned out delicious!!! Better than the ones they sell at the taco shop!!! Homemade food is always better than processed food... the energy you put into it is different!!! The meat from the butcher shop where you buy it isn't the same as the meat from a restaurant... and neither is the love!!! Plus, as you make them, you add your own flavors and taste them... the result is a real meal!!! Thank you!!!
Very good recipe! But I would add double the ingredients because it didn't make enough for 10 tacos! It made enough for 6 and a half xD
For vegetables, I added eggplant and zucchini cut into thin strips.
I liked the recipe, it is very delicious.
I wish the procedure for the ones in the photo were explained, because what's explained are the fajitas. The tacos are the ones in the photo.
Thank you
Has anyone ever tried adding cabbage to meat filling? I'm curious how it will turn out.
Thanks Paulina, I'm going to make them and I'll tell you!!!!
Can you make tacos with ground beef?
I really like your videos; they're very helpful. My kids also like a cold sauce I make with mayonnaise, mustard, and finely chopped spring onions. They're great.
I love you, Paulina...!!! Thank you, you saved my life...
I love you Paulina
Hello Paulina, what other variants of vegetarian osta fillings could there be? Your recipes are very simple. I'm now following you because of my daughter. Thank you.
Thanks! I'll make them tonight for my friends.
I prefer to prepare the green sauce with green tomato, known in Mexico as miltomate, sauté it with onion, then blend it, add salt, pepper, cilantro and jalapeño to taste
Hi, I wanted to share my experience and a twist. I added prunes (pitted, obviously) to the vegetable recipe, and as they say, anything turns out delicious. I've also experimented with corn kernels and peas, mustard, and ketchup. Gulp and heptamid.
I love you Paulina
Thanks!! I'll try to make them and let you know how they turn out!
I own a fast-food stand and wanted to try something new. Currently, I only sell empanadas, French fries, pizzas, etc.
Thanks for sharing your recipe. I'll start selling tacos next and see how it goes.
Tacos and burritos are very popular and in demand in Peru. Thanks for sharing your recipe so I can practice making some at home!
