In the utilization course, we dedicate two classes to a rather extensive book: it is called “ How to use broccoli leaves: why we don't eat them. An approach from the neo-Marxist paradigm .”
broccoli leaf issue is not minor. In fact, according to the teacher, it would occupy a central place in the superstructure.
But you know the utilization science teacher is a bit exaggerated. She also said something about us having to eat broccoli leaves because that would change the superstructure, and this would generate a change in the structure… I honestly didn't understand anything.
What I do remember is that he said we define ourselves as fighters in practice, so no matter what we read, he recommended we all make this recipe when we got home. Leaving that aside, I can tell you that the salad is delicious; the leaves aren't at all bitter, as I thought, and they're free at the grocery store!
Ingredients
for a medium salad
- Broccoli leaves
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tomato
- 1 egg
- Sesame seeds
- Salt, pepper, olive oil and vinegar
How to take advantage of broccoli leaves
broccoli leaf salad
1) The most important thing is to remove the thick veins from the leaf. This will remove the bitter taste, which isn't that bad. Then: wash the leaves and cut them as shown in the photo.
2) Now overlap the leaves and cut them into strips of 1 cm or less.
3) Chop the garlic and sauté it (very briefly) in olive oil.
4) Add the broccoli leaves and let them simmer until they wilt slightly. Remove from heat.
5) Beat the egg with salt and pepper and make a omelet . That is, place it in a hot pan with a little butter or oil and let the egg brown on both sides.
6) Roll the omelet and cut it into thin strips, it will look something like egg noodles
7) Cut the tomato into small cubes.
8) Plate : Place the sautéed broccoli leaves on the bottom, the egg strips in the center, and the diced tomatoes on top. Season with salt and pepper, season with olive oil and vinegar, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. You have no idea how delicious it is!
Honest P.S .: I stole this recipe from some blog a while back. I don't remember which one. I actually adopted it back then. I wanted to add it in the credits, but I couldn't find it. If it's from your blog, let me know, and I'll add a link to the source.
I'll do it tonight.
My broccoli leaves are about 40 cm long.
I blanched the broccoli leaves. First, I looked online to see if they were edible. I blanched them with chopped garlic. It took a while because the leaves are tougher. They remained tender, as I'm going to make a broccoli leaf omelet. I'll try this recipe another day. Thank you. I just wanted to make sure they were edible. Thank you very much.
Your Marxist explanation is the best! Thanks for the recipe, are we making it today at home?
I've already started working on it, I'll tell you later.
I just made it…and you’re right, it’s really good!
I found your page because today they gave me the whole broccoli with stem and leaf, and it was so much I felt bad about throwing it away…I also saw that you can fry the stem from side to side, I’m going to try that one too hehe We’re not here to throw anything away… xD
Hello! If I have a lot of leaves, could I freeze them for future preparations? Is it better to freeze them raw or cooked?
Thank you very much.
support the Marxist and flashy Paulina
I loved the salad!! Even my old man tried it and loved it!! ??
Thank you very much for the recipes, I love broccoli, even its leaves.
I loved it!!! I'll try it tomorrow!!!
Great, I'm going to try it. I love the way you write. Hugs!
Thanks Paulina!! Everything I want to cook, I first get it from your “hands”... I love your recipes and tips, as well as how educational your explanations are....
Spectacular Paulinaaaa, I'm eating it right now. I LOVED it!
I made the recipe and it is really delicious and filling!!
I'm using the leaves for a cream of broccoli soup with cheese and sliced almonds... I hope it turns out great!
Paulina, thanks for the help, I'm following your advice, hugs
Thanks to this recipe, I won't waste anything anymore. I've been making hummus for a while now, with bronchitis, and all I needed was to use up the leaves! Thanks!
Hello, I can confirm that the stems are delicious. Today I'm going to boil the leaves of some broccoli I bought yesterday. I also use carrot leaves in my stews. You can use almost all parts of the vegetables.
They're delicious. I use them for other dishes like croquettes and pies. Beetroot leaves can also be used in the same way. And the stems can be used as a preserve.
I love it. Thank you so much. I have a garden and I'm so sorry to throw away the broccoli because it's so beautiful. I searched and found your salad. I'll definitely try it. Thanks.
I loved it! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much. I knew there was a way to use them! I'm going to do it right now.
I love the “paulitips” and I love the aprovechologia class imagining your expressions at home, note hahaha
I use them in vegetable soup or for pie, just like chard. I chop the stems of the leaves and add them.
They're very fleshy and flavorful.
I love your use of this recipe! And the presentation of the dish is fantastic!
I also use beet leaves sautéed with garlic as a complement to any salad or mixed with couscous, for example. Thanks for more ideas!
How cool is this? Haha, I thought they had to be eaten in some kind of way. Otherwise, it's a waste. I'm going to add a touch of grated carrot and Caesar dressing instead of vinegar, and I'll let you know how it turns out.
Very good and express!
Hi Paulina. I'm letting you know that the broccoli stems, which you peel and blanch along with the florets, are delicious, and I'll help by recycling them.
Can broccoli leaves be eaten raw?
Hi Paulina, I made this and it came out delicious, but I tweaked a few ingredients. I sautéed it with onion instead of garlic (because I didn't have any). I also added curly lettuce leaves and canned corn kernels. I didn't use sesame seeds. Thanks for your recipe!
