Welcome to Paulina's Kitchen! Today we're going to learn how to make oat burgers , because yes, you can make burgers out of almost anything!

Before you start crying about hamburgers being just meat, I want to tell you that the name hamburger has nothing to do with the word “meat.”

The story of the meat medallion begins in Russia and, thanks to a wonderful migration, arrives in one of Germany's ports as a dish of seasoned, raw minced meat.

In one of the ports where this recipe lands, they decide to cook it and accompany it with typical local food. That town is called Hamburg.

They then brought the dish to the United States and called it "Hamburg-Style Beef or Steak." From there to the hamburger we all eat, it's just a few steps.

So, you can make burgers out of anything, and this time we decided to make them with oats. Those who already know about soy medallions or chickpea milanesas will love these beauties!

about these oat burgers

If you want to make this recipe without eggs, you can simply combine the ingredients with water; it will still turn out fine. The only precaution you need to take is to leave the mixture with little liquid in the refrigerator for an hour. This is because the oats absorb liquid as they sit, and otherwise they will become very soft.

It's also important not to make the oat burgers too thick or too thin: if they're too thick, they may not be well-cooked inside; if they're thin, they may be dry.

This is the base for oat burgers. You can get creative with this recipe however you like. Some ideas for varying your oat burgers:

Add grated carrot or other vegetable (tomato, beet, etc.)

Add different seeds or nuts

Season with different herbs and spices (parsley, rosemary and thyme, mustard...)

Add cubed cheese to melt during cooking.

Ingredients

for about 6 medium hamburgers

1 cup of rolled oats
1 garlic clove
1/2 onion
1/2 tsp. of turmeric
1 egg
1 tbsp. of grated Parmesan cheese
2 tbsp. of breadcrumbs
salt and pepper

Oatmeal Burger Recipe

simple and healthy!

1. Place the oat flakes in a bowl along with the finely chopped onion and garlic, turmeric, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese. Mix well.

2. Beat the egg in a separate bowl.

3. Add the egg little by little to the oats, this is because we may need to add a little less.

4. When the oats look moist but dry (you'll remember me for this phrase), I mean, when the oats look moist but not too moist, cover the mixture with plastic wrap or a towel and refrigerate for at least half an hour. It's important not to skip this step, as the oats will absorb some of the egg liquid and puff up during this time.

5. Remove the mixture from the refrigerator and form the oat burgers: first form a ball, flatten it well with your hand until it resembles a burger, and smooth out the edges, always compacting well so that it doesn't fall apart.

6. Dip each oat burger in the breadcrumbs: it's a quick process; don't press too hard or overcoat them, just pat them down on each side. This breadcrumb step can be skipped, but I prefer it because they're very crispy.

7. Cook the oat burgers in a pan with a drizzle of oil over medium heat. Turn them over until golden brown on both sides.

Ready!

Eat with hamburger buns or whatever you like

Very interesting recipe. My wife always adds oatmeal to her burgers and they are finger-licking good. I'm cooking now and will try your recipe. Thank you very much.

Hi Paulina! I make fish and oat burgers, and they come out delicious. I sometimes make meatballs with the same mixture. They're delicious! Last weekend, I made eggplant burgers using your meatball recipe. A huge success, even with the kids!
