How to make homemade Damascus jam

Homemade Jam

Welcome to Paulina Kitchen! Today we bring you a tutorial that was rage on Instagram: how to make homemade jam! It is known that all people are on Instagram these days, and the most fun, and therefore the most consumed, are the stories.

This beautiful format (with which I fought quite at the beginning, I have to recognize it) allows us to count several things of 15 seconds. What I like most to use the stories is to be able to do quick tutorials and tell them my experience while I prepare some recipe.

In one of the tutorials we talked about how to make homemade jam, and all crazy! So I made this video with dams that were seasonal, and strawberries, because strawberries are always good!

I leave the Instagram video here, which I took advantage of and sent myself one of my classic sung recipes!

on how to make homemade jam

This time we are going to make a homemade jam of dams and strawberries, but these tips are going to serve to make jams of what they want!

Weight question:

I do not talk about the program to lose weight, not gentlemen. I speak of the weight of the fruit. In order for a homemade jam to work out well, they have to know (or estimate quite well) how much the fruit peeled and without carozo.

There are fruits that have more waste than others. The strawberries, for example, is just getting the little hair. But others like citrus fruits, lose weight. Then if they bought 1 kilo of oranges, after peeled maybe it has about 750gr of fruit to use.

Proportional proportions

Why do we insist so much with the weight? The key to a good homemade jam is the proportion between sugar and fruit. It will depend if they like sugary jams or feel the fruit more.

In general, half of sugar is calculated than fruit. If we have 1 kilo of clean fruit, we use 500gr of sugar. In this case we will wear a little less, because we want a jam not so sugary, but this has to do with their tastes.

Can this sugar recipe be made? Clear! They can check the sugarless jam that will also love them!

The just point comes after

Close their eyes and think how they like their jam…. It's more solid? Is it more liquid? Choose a point and have it in the mind. When they are stirring their jam, think of that point and get it before. The homemade jam is finished solidifying when it cools , so eye with leaving it more because it is still a chirla. It is a very common mistake and the result is a bodoque!

A big trick to know if our homemade jam is already there, is to get a little with a spoon and put it on the table. They pass their finger in the middle. If the jam is joined again, it still is missing. If the marked groove is left, then you can get it out.

Refer to me

The preserves of homemade jam they last a lot and rarely get ugly. The amount of sugar, both of the fruit and the aggregate, are large preservatives. But anyway, we have to pack our jam in a super clean bottle.

It is best to use sterilized bottles, and for that you can visit my step by step to sterilize jars at home with your microwave. And as I said before, these jam can be reached in jars like that.

It is important that they do not complete the whole bottle, and leave a little air between homemade jam and lid. I also recommend leaving them turned upside down. That's all friends! A super guide how to make homemade jam!

Greetings and until next

Or whatever they want!

  1. Wash the fruit well, cut it and take out the expensive. The peel can be left if you want.
  2. Weigh the fruit and calculate a little less than half of sugar.
  3. Let it stand half an hour until a liquid or syrup comes out.
  4. Take a pot and cook over medium covered heat until it boils.
  5. Uncover and leave over half boiling and stir every so much. You can add half a lemon.
  6. Once it is thick, take out a spoonful, wait for you to pursue and pass your finger as you can see in the video. If they do not join again, that's it! The jam hardens when cooling, so you have to get it liquid.
  7. Hot, pack in jars, cover and turn. Let cool.

There they have it

A beauty!

Hello, consult, I made an orange jam but it is a terrible job to take out all the skin of the segments. Can you do the orange juice or would you stay as jelly? Jelly or agar agar can be used to thick ?? Thank you!
