About the salmon and avocado tartar

What is salmon tartare?

If you're a fan of raw salmon, whether you're eating it in sushi or ceviche , you can't miss the salmon and avocado tartar , a fresh, light, and flavorful dish. It's a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional meat tartar and is perfect as an appetizer or starter.

Salmon tartare is a dish consisting of raw salmon cut into small cubes and seasoned with a variety of fresh ingredients that add distinct flavors and textures to the dish. It's typically served with a base of avocado, red onion, cucumber, cilantro, lemon juice, and olive oil, among other ingredients, which perfectly complement the delicate and rich flavor of fresh salmon.

This dish is often served in fine dining restaurants, but it's also popular to prepare it at home for special occasions. It can be enjoyed as an appetizer, served on a plate, or as part of a fresh menu, presented in small glasses or cups.

How to choose the best salmon for this recipe

To prepare a good salmon tartare, it's important to choose fresh, high-quality salmon . If possible, choose wild salmon instead of farmed salmon, as it's usually fresher and has a more intense flavor.

The salmon should be bright and uniform in color. Avoid any with dark spots or discoloration, as this indicates the fish has begun to decompose. The best part of the salmon for tartar is the loin, as it has less fat and is virtually boneless.

While it's not necessary to freeze salmon to make tartar, it's recommended to freeze it for at least 24 hours before use to avoid any risk of contamination by bacteria or parasites. You can also buy frozen salmon and skip this step.

Ingredients that cannot be missing in the salmon tartar recipe

  • Fresh, high-quality salmon : this is the basis of the dish and the protein in salmon tartar.
  • Avocado : It gives tartar a creamy, smooth texture, and its flavor pairs perfectly with salmon. It's important that the avocado is ripe.
  • Red or white onion : It adds freshness and texture to the dish, as well as a slight spiciness.

Other ingredients that can be included in a salmon tartare recipe include fresh cilantro, lemon juice, fresh cucumber, dill, chives, olive oil, salt, and pepper. It's important that all ingredients are finely chopped to ensure a balanced consistency.
